Using Reflective Analysis to Improve Patient Care

Posted on September 17, 2020 by Essay

The goal of reflective analysis of a critical incident is to help nurses identify the root cause of the problem and help to build a better working relationship with their patients. This type of reflective analysis can include both internal and external sources of information and is often referred to as an integrated reflection process. The purpose of this is to examine the events surrounding the critical incident and the impact it has had on the nurses, their staff and the patients they treat.

One of the most common issues that come up in a case of nursing critical incident is the issue of communication. It may be difficult to determine who was communicating with whom and how they were communicating with each other. This may not only result in communication problems for the nurse, but it can also make it hard for both parties to have a good working relationship.

The key to successful reflective analysis of a critical incident is to provide both the nurses and the patients with an accurate account of the events surrounding the critical incident. By doing this the nurses are able to have an accurate understanding of what was said and done during the critical incident. The patients can gain a better understanding of what occurred by having the ability to provide their own thoughts, feelings and reactions.

In addition to this, in order to be able to provide the necessary information for reflective analysis of a critical incident, it is important to document what occurred during the critical incident. Once the information has been recorded, it should be documented in such a way that nurses and patients can clearly see the impact that the critical incident had on the individuals involved.

An example of an incident for reflective analysis of a critical incident would be the following. A nurse was performing a routine office visit when he heard the door being opened. The nurse then immediately noticed that the nurse in the next bed was agitated and in tears, indicating that the nurse was dealing with a significant stress related health issue.

The reflective analysis of a critical incident can also include providing feedback about the actions taken by the nurses following the critical incident. If the nurses were unable to provide clear details after the critical incident, then the nurse is required to provide a detailed description of the activities he or she took during the critical incident.

The process of reflective analysis of a critical incident is also helpful in the assessment of what types of changes may be necessary after a critical incident. For example, if a nurse notices that the patient was uncomfortable with some of the staff’s behaviors at the nursing facility, then the nurse is required to identify the behavior, its effect and whether or not the nurse should continue with it. Once the change has been identified, the nurse can discuss whether the behavior is likely to affect the patient’s nursing experience.

By using these tools, nurses are able to use a reflective analysis to help determine if they need to make any changes to their staffing practices in the future. By doing this, nurses can also provide more effective care to their patients and can build a better working relationship with their staff.

There are several other reasons why a critical incident should be analyzed. When a critical incident is analyzed, the nursing staff can identify whether or not they had identified all of the possible causes of the critical incident, such as poor communication, failure to recognize or anticipate the patient’s needs, ineffective or unsafe techniques or equipment and/or a failure to properly prepare for the patient’s arrival.

By being able to identify the root cause of a critical incident, nurses can then take steps to prevent similar situations from occurring. This includes providing effective communication techniques, educating patients about their medical history and providing the appropriate nursing care and equipment.

Lastly, it is important to note that reflective analysis of a critical incident can be used as evidence for any nursing litigation that may arise. Nursing litigation is a complicated process that involves both medical and legal matters. Therefore, a careful analysis of the critical incident that resulted in the lawsuit will provide critical evidence as a tool to assist the plaintiff and his or her attorney in establishing the facts surrounding the lawsuit.
